A tiny bit of voice acting, the map, and another branch completed

I recently added a bit of voice acting to the game! There's a particular scene that I felt deserved it, so I commissioned a few hundred words of spoken dialogue. It might be a bit random to suddenly get a voice acted scene in the middle of the game, but I think it kinda fits. In an ideal world, my whole game would be voice acted (or actually, just acted—I would love to have my game presented like a Supermassive Games production), but alas, I don't have that kind of money.

Regarding the map I mentioned previously: It's now fully integrated into the game. You can toggle it anytime, and it'll show you the approximate location of the current scene. Or if you really want, you can just leave it open and watch the little red 'X' jump around from scene to scene. πŸ˜‰

I've also finished writing the second of the three major branches—only the true-ending path remains. Of course, finishing this branch doesn't mean the game is complete yet. I still have Day 5 and the epilogue left to write, plus the "ending timeline" feature I've mentioned before, where the game reveals a timeline of events, including some that the player couldn't possibly know during gameplay.

After all that is done, I need to fully playtest the entire thing again, with every possible combination of choices. I should also take a look at which scenes could use additional sound effects, graphical enhancements, or possibly animations. And if the word count isn't quite where I want it, I'll probably write a few additional scenes. Actually, let's check the script's word count right now: it's currently around 40,000 words. I'd prefer at least 60,000 words for the finished product.

Fortunately, there are still plenty of words to write for Day 5 and the epilogue. I'll keep you updated as progress continues! 😊

P.S. I'm proud of how good I made that polaroid look. It's connected to the mystery, somehow! πŸ˜‰

Hello Jay!

It's summer already. I hope you are well, inspired and motivated!

New questions added to the list: Who is Ada - and who killed her? (Um, is she even dead?)
Why does this one particular scene deserves voice acting? What happens there? (Seriously, to have voice acting in your game, even if it's just for one scene, is pretty cool).
And: Is a release before autumn still on the cards?

In any case, keep having fun doing what you do. Just don't forget to take a break now and then. β˜•

Hi Mara! Nice to hear from you again. Hope you're having a great summer!

Sorry for the radio silence! I did take a little break earlier to completely immerse myself into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which I thought was just magnificent—for once the story telling wasn't an afterthought or didn't solely exist because every game is expected to have a story nowadays. And currently I'm on summer vacation—something unbelievable is happening in Finland now—it's warm. It's really warm, and we are expecting it to get even warmer for the next two weeks. We're talking close to 30c temperatures. Madness!

So I need to stack up some vitamin D for the winter. You know, the other 11 months. πŸ˜

I've still been thinking about the story, even during the break, coming up with new ideas. I have a cabin trip planned IRL for the next weekend, so who knows what inspiration strikes there. 😁 I'll post an update once I have something meaningful to announce. Hopefully a release? I'm not terribly off course, but there's still a good bit to do. Also, I've told myself I can't upgrade my PC until SoB is released. So, no pressure, right? πŸ˜‰

Take care, and don't forget your own summer breaks! β˜•

Clair Obscur? Noice!
Haven't played it yet, but I've only heard good things about it. The game is definitely on my list. I bought Lies of P. during the Steam summer sale. I've been wanting to try it out for a while, so I figured why not. It's quite difficult as far as I know, so we'll see how far I get.

30Β°C in Finland? I don't believe you! πŸ˜†
Nah, we had some pretty hot days here too, then it got colder again and it rained a lot. It's supposed to get warmer again next week, which can only mean one thing ... Barbecues! Barbecues everywhere! I can almost smell my neighbour's charcoal grill already.

Regular breaks can be really helpful to come up with new ideas. And a trip to a cabin? That does indeed sound like a golden opportunity to find extra inspiration.

Have a great time and keep going out there and get those vitamin D's! πŸ’ͺ
